Indigenous Peoples Day Sunrise Gathering

A Memorable Event

This event commemorates 527 years of Indigenous resistance and survival in the Americas, honors the cultural resiliency of Indigenous Peoples in California and around the world, and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the occupation of Alcatraz by Indians of All Tribes in 1969-1970. It has been sponsored and coordinated by the International Indian Treaty Council for the past 40 years. This is not the standard Alcatraz Island tour and all areas with the exception of where the ceremony takes place will be closed and inaccessible to the general public.

This year marks a special milestone celebrating the 50th anniversary of the occupation. Please check our website for further updates.
